On behalf of ASPET’s Board of Publications Trustees, I am pleased to announce that Dr. Jeffrey Stevens has been selected to succeed Dr. Edward T. Morgan as the next editor of Drug Metabolism and Disposition. Dr. Stevens will fully assume the editorship in January 2018 when Dr. Morgan’s term will end.
Dr. Stevens received a B.S. degree in biology from the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN. He received an M.S. degree in toxicology from the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Arizona working under Dr. James Halpert, a former editor of this journal. Dr. Stevens’ thesis was titled “Selective inactivation of four rat liver androstenedione hydroxylases by chloramphenicol analogs.” He received a Ph.D. degree in pharmacology and toxicology, also from the University of Arizona and also under Dr. Halpert. His dissertation addressed “Steroid derivatives as probes of adrenal cytochrome P450 structure and function.”
He worked as a postdoctoral scientist in the Department of Drug Metabolism at Eli Lilly and Company. Subsequent positions included research scientist, senior research scientist, and senior research fellow with Rhône-Poulenc Rorer; senior research scientist IV/research advisor and research advisor/associate fellow at Pharmacia; and director and senior director for pharmacokinetics, dynamics, and metabolism with Pfizer in St. Louis and Andover/Cambridge. Dr. Stevens is currently a consultant working in the areas of drug metabolism, scientific strategy, and publishing.
Dr. Stevens has served as a reviewer for DMD since 1997, and as an associate editor since 2004. In addition, Dr. Stevens has been an associate editor for The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics since 2012, and an at-large member of ASPET’s Board of Publications Trustees since 2016. In addition to his service to ASPET’s journals, Dr. Stevens has been a member of the Brodie Award Committee and the Program Committee, and has served as chair of the Division for Drug Metabolism. His publication record includes 30 research articles and 7 invited book chapters and articles. Dr. Stevens has over 50 abstracts, presentations, and invited talks to his credit.
The Board of Publications Trustees is very pleased that Dr. Stevens has accepted the editorship of Drug Metabolism and Disposition and looks forward to the continued success of the journal under his leadership.
