Abstract
Four monohydroxymetabolites of ethosuximide have been identified in the urine of rat and man. A dihydroxyethosuximide was present in small quantities in rat urine. Several glucuronides of the monohydroxyethosuximides were also detected in the urine samples. In rat plasma, ethosuximide was present in higher concentration than the metabolites; in human adult and infant plasma, the monohydroxyethosuximides were present in larger quantities than the unchanged drug. Analytical procedures based on gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry were employed to carry out this study.
