PETERSEN YR 1974 UL http://dmd.aspetjournals.org/content/2/4/341.abstract AB The in vitro hydrolysis of di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate to mono-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate and 2-ethylhexanol is reported. The metabolites have been identified by gas chromatography with supporting experiments employing 14C- and tritium-labeled substrate. The monoester, methylated to form methyl (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, and 2-ethylhexanol were detected. An esterase or esterases present in rat liver, lung, and kidney appear(s) responsible for the hydrolysis. Subcellular fractionation of the liver indicates that hydrolysis takes place in mitochondria and microsomes but not in cytosol.
