Values represent mean ± SE for five rats. IS/OM, inner stripe of outer medulla. Consult with Materials and Methodsfor details of injections and treatments. All animals received an intravenous 0.5 μmol/kg dose of mercuric chloride containing 4 μCi/kg 203Hg2+ after being pretreated with 1 of the 4 protocols used. The disposition of inorganic mercury in the renal tissues and blood was evaluated 1 hr after injection of mercuric chloride.
