Carboxylic acids and 1-hydroxy-2-butanone were extracted from urine, derivatized, and quantified as described under Material and Methods. Values shown represent the amounts of each compound prior to hydrolysis with β-glucuronidase/sulfatase. Total values after hydrolysis were not significantly different from values obtained prior to hydrolysis. Each value represents the mean ± S.D. of values obtained from at least three rats or mice.
