Results, expressed as n-fold differences in TF gene expression relative to the TBP gene, termed N_TF, were determined by the formula: N_TF = 2^{–ΔCtsample}, where ΔCt value of the sample was determined by subtracting the average Ct value of the TF gene from the average Ct value of the TBP gene. The N_TF values of the samples were subsequently normalized to a basal transcript level, that is, to the smallest amount of TF transcript quantifiable (TF gene Ct value = 32, and then scored as the smallest N_TF value, i.e., N_TF value = 1).
