2016, Pharmacological ResearchCitation Excerpt :Besides, low expression of human OCT1 is also detected in other tissues including small intestine, colon, kidney, lung, brain, heart, skeletal muscle, peripheral leukocytes, adrenal gland, mammary gland, immune cells and adipose tissue [29,32,33]. Oct2 was isolated by homology screening from rat kidney and human OCT2 was also cloned later [32,34]. In humans, OCT2 is predominantly expressed on the basolateral membrane of renal proximal tubule cells in the kidney, and low expression has also been reported in brain, lung, small intestine, thymus, placenta and the inner ear [29,32].
