Rapid quantification of glutaminase 2 (GLS2)-related metabolites by HILIC-MS/MS
2017, Analytical BiochemistryCitation Excerpt :An efficient and effective method for simultaneous determination of glutamine, glutamate and glutathione in cells can benefit the study of tumor biology and drug development. Due to the biological importance of glutamine, glutamate and glutathione, various analytical methods have been established to analyze these metabolites, such as enzyme-based methods [6–8], electrochemistry [7,9], GC-MS [10–13], LC-UV, LC-ECD [14], LC-MS and LC-MS/MS [15]. Enzyme-based methods are widely used in clinical laboratories, but these methods are not able to simultaneously detect glutamine, glutamate and glutathione.

2008, Transplantation ProceedingsCitation Excerpt :Plasma glucose was measured at the bedside with a glucose analyzer (Beckman Instruments, Fullerton, Calif, United States) and free insulin, glucagon, C-peptide, growth hormone, and cortisol were measured with a radioimmunoassay.11 The catecholamine concentrations were measured by high-performance liquid chromatography as previously described.15 β-Hydroxybutyrate (β-OHB) and free fatty acid (FFA) were measured as previously described.16
Isotopomer-Based Metabolomic Analysis by NMR and Mass Spectrometry
2008, Methods in Cell BiologyCitation Excerpt :In the case of derivatized metabolites, this capability can be used to verify the existence and number of derivative tags on the metabolite. This is a traditional technique in GC‐MS where examination of the appropriate isotopic ion pattern can yield the number of functional groups present; for example, the deconvolution of the Si isotopic pattern reveals the number of active‐hydrogen functional groups when MTBSTFA derivatization is used (Anderson et al., 1986). A far more complex analysis that can be performed entirely within “trap” MS instruments, such as ion trap MS or ICR‐MS, is the generation of “ion trees.”
