Later, the enzyme involved was confirmed to be 11β-HSD1 and other substrates such as p-nitroacetophenone and p-nitrobenzaldehyde were described [90,91]. Further studies identified additional non-steroidal compounds as substrates of 11β-HSD1, namely ketoprofen, DFU-lactol, the anti-cancer drug candidate oracin, the tobacco constituent nicotine-derived nitrosamineketone (NNK) and the fungicide triadimefon ([92–98], for a more comprehensive review see also [46]).
