In rodent models, GH secretion is pulsatile in males but relatively apulsatile in females, and these distinct patterns of secretion are thought to differentially affect growth as well as expression of numerous hepatic enzymes [54–57]. Sensitivity to the pattern of GH delivery to target tissues is mediated at least in part by signal transducer and activator of transcription 5b (STAT5b), the primary GH responsive transcription factor.
