2023, Advances in PharmacologyAn overview of the biologic effects of omega-6 oxylipins in humans
2018, Prostaglandins Leukotrienes and Essential Fatty AcidsCitation Excerpt :Therefore, by stimulating 12-HETE release, 13-HODE can act to improve mesenteric circulation. 13-HODE specifically inhibits metastatic melanoma cells from adhering to pulmonary endothelial cells, counteracting the stimulating effect of 12-HETE [70]. In this case, 13-HODE opposes the action of an AA-derived product of 12-LOX, underscoring the exceedingly complicated nature of oxylipin biology.
Distinct effects of dietary flax compared to fish oil, soy protein compared to casein, and sex on the renal oxylipin profile in models of polycystic kidney disease
2017, Prostaglandins Leukotrienes and Essential Fatty AcidsCitation Excerpt :However, it has been shown that epoxy-octadecenoic acids (EpOME) and DiHOMEs derived from LA have cytotoxic effects in renal proximal tubular cells [69,70] and DiHOMEs have been reported to induce chemotaxis in human neutrophils [71]. Effects of other LA oxylipins have been demonstrated in other tissues as well, including anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative properties in the skin [72], inhibition of tumor cell adhesion [73] and reduction in leukotriene B4 secretion from leukocytes [74]. In humans, LA oxylipins, HODE and oxoODEs have been implicated in oxidative stress and inflammation [75].
Trans-10,cis-12-conjugated linoleic acid worsens renal pathology and alters cyclooxygenase derived oxylipins in obesity-associated nephropathy
2015, Journal of Nutritional BiochemistryCitation Excerpt :The effect of the lowered HODE levels in these kidneys is not known, as little is known of the biological activity of these oxylipins in the kidney. They have been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antiproliferative effects in skin [75], inhibit leukotriene B4 secretion from leukocytes [76], inhibit tumor cell adhesion [77], and inhibit TXA2 synthesis and stimulate 12-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid production in human platelets [11]. HODE also has been implicated in oxidative stress and inflammation [78].
