      After intercalation, which is mainly between the two adjacent GC base pairs of the DNA, DOX is stabilized by the specific hydrogen-bonding with guanine residues. This interaction inhibits replication of the DNA and thus, the tumor growth [94,95]. Via intercalation, DOX can also induce histone eviction from transcriptionally active chromatin [96,97].
