2022, Environmental ResearchCitation Excerpt :Dimethachlon has been detected in the environment and agricultural products (Zhang et al., 2010; Sun et al., 2018), however, the maximum residue level (MRL) values of dimethachlon in vegetables, fruits, and crops are still not defined. Previous studies showed that even at low dose levels (0.4 mmol kg−1), dimethachlon can cause marked nephrotoxicity in male rats and it could lead to nephrotoxic to rats after either acute or chronic administration (Rankin, 1982, 2004; Kellner-Weibel et al., 1995; Griffin et al., 1996; Rankin et al., 1985; Kennedy et al., 2003). Chen et al. found that 200 mg kg−1 dimethachlon can not only induce the production of vitellogenin in the blood of male Carassius auratus, but also can stimulate the production of vitellogenin in the liver of male Carassius auratus.

The presence of NDPS in the ecosystem has received increasing attention because of its hazardous nature of toxic residues to non-target organisms including human beings [5–12]. However, no work has hitherto been conducted for the removal of dimethachlon.

NDPS induces marked acute nephrotoxicity in male rats at ip doses of 0.4 mmol/kg or greater (Rankin, 1982, 2004; Rankin et al., 1984, 1985). Acute NDPS nephrotoxicity is characterized as polyuric renal failure with marked proximal tubular necrosis (Rankin, 2004).
