    The three pseudogenes UGT1A2P, UGT1A11P and UGT1A12P contain nonsense mutations within the predicted amino acid sequences of their exon 1 (Cho et al., 1995; Mackenzie et al., 1997). Two members of the UGT2B subfamily, UGT2B4 and UGT2B17, have been localized on chromosome 4q13, and contrary to the UGT1A family, each UGT2B enzyme is thus far encoded by independent genes (Beaulieu et al., 1997; Monaghan et al., 1992, 1994, 1997). The UGT2B enzymes catalyze the glucuronidation of bile acids, fatty acids and, in particular, steroid hormones.
