Acute stress impairs sensorimotor gating via the neurosteroid allopregnanolone in the prefrontal cortex
2022, Neurobiology of StressNeurosteroids: non-genomic pathways in neuroplasticity and involvement in neurological diseases
2018, Pharmacology and TherapeuticsCitation Excerpt :The production of these neurosteroids can also be stimulated by drugs, including etifoxine, a non-benzodiazepine anxiolytic drug (Do Rego, Vaudry, & Vaudry, 2015). PREG and DHEA can be converted into their sulfate ester forms PREG-S and DHEA-S that are the soluble circulating forms, and the possibly most abundant neurosteroids in the brain (Corpéchot et al., 1981; Corpéchot et al., 1983; Rajkowski, Robel, & Baulieu, 1997). Conjugation is catalyzed by cytosolic hydroxysteroid sulfotransferases (HST) belonging to the sulfotransferase 2 family (Fig. 1; Mellon & Vaudry, 2001; Strott, 2002).
Exogenous dopamine induces dehydroepiandrosterone sulfotransferase (rSULT2A1) in rat liver and changes the pharmacokinetic profile of moxifloxacin in rats
2015, Drug Metabolism and PharmacokineticsCitation Excerpt :Significant increases in rSULT2A1 activity were achieved respectively after 2 and 10 mg/kg/d DA administration to female rats (Fig. 1F). Fig. 1F presents higher basal value of rSULT2A1 in female rat liver, which indicates prominent sex dimorphism as previous investigation described [20,36,37]. Results in Fig. 1 suggest that rSULT2A1 was induced significantly due to the administration of exogenous DA.
Dehydroepiandrosterone: A neuroactive steroid
2015, Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular BiologyCitation Excerpt :On the other hand, CNS sulfatase activity is substantial. Despite the low brain sulfotransferase activity several authors demonstrated both in vitro and in vivo DHEA sulfation in various mammalian brain tissues [23,24,26,27]. Although all groups of steroids may be synthesized in both adult and fetal CNS, the activities of some steroidogenic enzymes like sulfatase or CYP17A1 are substantially lower in the CNS when compared to the peripheral tissues.
