On behalf of the Board of Publications Trustees of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET), I am pleased to announce that Dr. Xinxin Ding has been selected to succeed Dr. Jeffrey C. Stevens as the next editor of Drug Metabolism and Disposition. Dr. Ding will fully assume the editorship in January 2021 when Dr. Stevens’ term will end.
Dr. Ding received his B.S. degree in medical physiology from Nanjing University, Nanjing, China, in 1982 and his Ph.D. degree in biologic chemistry from the University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor, in 1988. His dissertation advisor was Dr. Minor J. Coon.
He was a postdoctoral research fellow with Dr. Coon and held teaching positions with the University of Michigan Medical School’s Department of Biologic Chemistry from 1988 to 1994. He held research scientist positions with the New York State Department of Health Laboratory of Molecular Toxicology in the Division of Environmental Health Sciences of the Wadsworth Center from 1994 to 2014. He was assistant division director from 2005 to 2014 and laboratory chief from 2007 to 2014 at the New York State Department of Health.
Dr. Ding simultaneously served as an assistant, associate, and then full professor in the toxicology track of the Department of Environmental Health Sciences in the School of Public Health at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Albany from 1994 to 2014. He was director of the toxicology program from 2000 to 2014. He also served as associate professor (2000–2003) and professor (2004–2014) in the molecular genetics and neuroscience tracks at SUNY Albany. He held additional positions in New York, including professor of nanobioscience at SUNY Polytechnic Institute, Colleges of Nanoscale Science and Engineering, from 2014 to 2017.
Since 2017, Dr. Ding has been a professor and head of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Arizona. He is also a member of the Bio5 Institute, UA Cancer Center, and UA Southwest Environmental Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Ding has been an associate editor for Drug Metabolism and Disposition since 2010. He has served as an editorial board member for Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology, Journal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, Journal of Biologic Chemistry, International Journal of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Cell Biology and Toxicology, and Current Pharmacology Reports. Dr. Ding has been a co-editor-in-chief of Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B and an associate editor of Tobacco Regulatory Science. He has been a member of ASPET since 1997. His other work for the Society includes being a councilor (2001–2004), secretary/treasurer (2005–2006), and chair (2018–2019) of the Drug Metabolism and Disposition Division, organizing or co-organizing several symposia for ASPET’s annual meetings, and serving on the Nominating Committee (2005–2006).
Dr. Ding’s research interests include in vivo functions of cytochrome P450 enzymes in xenobiotic metabolism and toxicity, including carcinogenesis. As of this writing, he has published nearly 170 articles and 27 book chapters, review articles, and other publications.
The Board of Publications Trustees is very pleased that Dr. Ding has accepted the editorship of Drug Metabolism and Disposition and looks forward to the continued success of the journal under his leadership.
