Nitroreductase activity toward nitro-PAHs in skin cytosols of various mammals

Each value represents the mean ± S.D. of three animals. The mixture containing 0.1 μmol of 1-nitropyrene or 4-nitrobiphenyl, 0.5 μmol of 2-hydroxypyrimidine, and skin cytosol in 0.1 M potassium/sodium phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) was incubated at 37°C for 30 min under an anaerobic condition. The amounts of 1-aminopyrene and 4-aminobiphenyl formed were determined by HPLC. Other details are described under Materials and Methods.
