Apoptosis induction and inhibition of HeLa cell proliferation by alpha-naphthoflavone and resveratrol are aryl hydrocarbon receptor-independent
2018, Chemico-Biological InteractionsCitation Excerpt :Interestingly, an AHR signal was also observed in the nuclear fraction of untreated HeLa cells. Similarly, a previous report described nuclear AHR in untreated HeLa cells, but in a higher proportion [21]. Additionally, AHR signal was observed in plasma membrane in some untreated HeLa cells.
Inhibition of constitutive aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) signaling attenuates androgen independent signaling and growth in (C4-2) prostate cancer cells
2013, Biochemical PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :A few studies support the presence of the nuclear/activated form of AhR in the absence of an exogenous ligand. AhR was seen in nuclear fractions of HeLa cells under normal culture conditions [45]. Furthermore, studies designed to mimic a constitutively active AhR have shown a role for the receptor in tumor progression.
A new cross-talk between the aryl hydrocarbon receptor and RelB, a member of the NF-κB family
2009, Biochemical PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Especially derivates from the essential amino acid tryptophan have been identified as high-affinity ligands to the AhR and are considered as potential endogenous AhR ligands [3,4]. The non-activated form of the AhR is complexed with heat shock protein 90 (HSP90) and X-associated protein 2 (XAP2) in the cytosol, but depending on cell type and physiological conditions the AhR is also located in the nucleus even in absence of exogenous ligand [5]. XAP2 may enhance the rate of nuclear translocation of the ligand-bound human AhR complex and modulates the sub-cellular localization of the mouse AhR [6,7].
