This effect modification may occur because that hyperglycemia and hypertension are thought to share pathophysiological bases including the disruption of CYP expression (Drolet et al., 2017; Enriquez et al., 1999; Park et al., 2016; Pass et al., 2002; Holla et al., 2001). For example, Drolet et al. found altered protein expression of cardiac and hepatic CYP 2/4 in Type II diabetes mice (Drolet et al., 2017).

2021, Environmental PollutionCitation Excerpt :Our findings provide evidence that individuals with prediabetes are more susceptible to increases in CYP450-derived eicosanoids associated with short-term exposure to PM2.5. This effect modification may be because prediabetic individuals are in the early stage of diabetes onset, which has been reported to be associated with alterations of CYP450 oxidases and hydroxylases in experimental animals (Drolet et al., 2017; Enriquez et al., 1999; Park et al., 2016; Pass et al., 2002) and humans (Duflot et al., 2019). Moreover, hyperglycemia can lead to decreased antioxidant levels (e.g., vitamin E and glutathione), thus impairing antioxidant defenses (Lu, 2009).

2021, Life SciencesCitation Excerpt :It was observed that CYP2E1 expression was significantly decreased in female ob/ob mice at both the mRNA and protein levels, while male mice demonstrated no significant reduction in the expression of CYP2E1 [26]. Notably, declined CYP2E1 activity was detected in the liver of both Zucker diabetic fatty rats and ob/ob mice of both genders [26]. In addition, there was no difference in the hepatic CYP2E1 expression in female ob/ob mice, as compared to control mice [27].
